Te Whiti was born in1830 near Ngamotu.Te Whiti was born in the times of the musket wars. There were over 20,000 people who died. His dad was a minor chief of Patukai Hapu of the ngati Tawhirikura branch.

Te Whiti lived peacefully on the coast near Parihaka until 1865. Te Whiti’s father discovered a village at parihaka and he wanted people to regain their land.

In 1870 Parihaka had become one of the biggest villages in the country the Europeans invaded the land in 1879. In 1881 they started to take it away because they were greedy and wanted power.

Te Whiti was one of the leaders of Parihaka he believed in non violence. He preached Christian beliefs to his people.Te Whiti tried to stop the Europeans taking the Maori land in a non violent way.He never gave in ,even when he was sent to jail.

Te Whiti’s wife died in 1888 and he wasn’t allowed to see her because he was still in jail.  Then shortly after his wife died he  got released Te Whiti died in 1907.

Te Whiti was very inspirational because he bought peace to Parihaka and the land. He had his beliefs and he always stuck to them. He will be remembered forever.
